History of Frome Collegians Football Club
The Frome Collegians Football Club was formed in 1975, primarily to extend schoolboy’s playing experience and to help bridge the gap between youth and senior football.
The original founder members were Ray Ward and Peter Douglas. Ray was a master at Frome College and the links with the college are still strong today.
The main aim of the club has always been to provide football both in terms of coaching and competitive competition for the youth of Frome. Many honours have been gained over the years and at the present time the club is one of the largest in the county, now fielding some nineteen teams each week.
Almost totally dependent on voluntary subscriptions the club has also been regularly supported by local businessmen, the local council and the Frome Lions. The club has F.A. Charter status and is entirely staffed by volunteers the majority of which have Football Association qualifications.
The President of the club Graham Clarke, the Vice President, Richard Hounsell and the Chairman Mike Buckley are currently working hard to find a home for the club by establishing a pitch near the Frome Cricket Club. At this time the Collegians share the clubhouse facilities with that club.
The club has attained “Senior” status and the first team plays in the Somerset County League. The reserve and “A” teams play in the Mid Somerset League and the many youth teams play in local youth leagues.
Players from the club have represented the County at various age groups, the South West of England side and various other district and league teams.
